The Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo received a grant from the Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, MI to establish a program called the Communities of Giving Legacy Initiative, an initiative that focuses on the organizational and community development of 10 minority non-profit organizations.  One of the 10 organizations selected was the Minority Bar Association of WNY Foundation.  The Foundation, a volunteer based organization, is dedicated to providing financial assistance and scholarships to people of color who are entering law school or sitting for the bar exam.  An organization assessment determined that the major area of need for the Foundation was in marketing and development.
The Magellan Group was engaged to work with representatives from the board to develop a Strategic Marketing Plan.  A key requirement was that the plan be simple and focused so that it would be easy to implement. The plan included four goals:  Improving Awareness, Grow and Develop the Board and Foundation, Expand Collaborative Efforts, and Build Organization Capacity. Goals were identified as short-term and long-term.
